Why Should I Use a Gel Battery?

Thanks to the developing technology, the use of gel batteries, which is the most preferred battery type of recent years, continues to spread rapidly, leaving the use of lead acid batteries in the background. Batteries, which are used in almost every mechanism where electrical energy is concerned, provide to store this energy for later use. Although there are many types of batteries, the most widely used battery type is lead-acid batteries. Lead acid batteries are mainly examined in two groups as wet and dry batteries. Dry batteries do not require maintenance. They are divided into two models, called VRLA (Valve Regulated Lead Acid) (Valve Regulated Lead Acid Battery).

It is AGM Battery (electrolyte impregnated with separators) and gel battery which is more advanced model. The main feature of these batteries is that they do not overflow or leak acid. There is little to no gas output. Therefore, it is very safe and has a much longer shelf life. It is also more resistant to vibration than wet batteries. Shipping is hassle-free.

Gel Batteries are batteries that contain gel-jelly electrolytes. The gel battery is a type of dry battery and the electrolytes it contains are not liquid but gel-like. It is the combination of silica and sulfuric acid that provides this gel consistency and the ion transfer in the battery in this gel-electrolyte medium. The acid in these batteries has gel density. This density increases the discharge and vibration tolerance of the battery considerably. Gel batteries containing gelled acid are in the valve-regulated, maintenance-free lead acid battery group. Due to the liquid and calcium alloys of these batteries, they have very low discharge rates when they are not operated. Gel batteries do not require any liquid level control or water addition. Mixing technology, on the other hand, produces very small volumes of gas rise even if overcharging occurs. Therefore, they require a very low level of ventilation. Gel batteries work on the principle of conversion (O2 recombination) and the elements that pass into the gas phase are then included in the chemical reaction by condensing. For this reason, gel batteries have a special valve system that opens only at high pressure for safety reasons, and this system minimizes water loss by preventing gases from moving away from the battery.

Why Gel Battery? (Power-Xtra Electric Bicycle Battery)

 • With the increasing demand for high-performance batteries in different applications, gel batteries have a wide range of use in areas where standard wet and dry batteries cannot provide the desired performance.

• There is no need to add water to gel batteries. Therefore, there is no possibility of leakage and no possibility of harming the environment.

• It has 75 percent more capacity compared to flooded batteries. Therefore, it offers much higher performance and a wide usage area.

• In order to remove the gases that arise in the areas where gel batteries are used, much smaller ventilation windows are sufficient compared to the areas where aqueous batteries are used.

• Gel batteries, which do not contain liquid electrolytes, do not have the possibility of damaging the environment where the battery is located by leaking the electrolyte in any way.

• While the usable capacity is at the maximum level of 50 in aqueous batteries, this value is 80 in gel batteries. In other words, while 50 Ah can be used from a 100 Ah aqueous battery, 80 Ah slices of a 100 Ah gel battery can be used easily.

• While the cycle life of the flooded battery is 100, the cycle life of the gel battery is 450, that is, the gel battery can be discharged and charged 450 times, provided that 80 of the battery is discharged.

Figure-1 Charge-discharge cycle life curve according to deep discharge battery and capacity usage

When the graph is examined, over 5000 full charge-discharge can be made with 10 discharges, while a full discharge of the battery, that is, with 100 usages, 350 full charge-full discharges can be made.

 • Gel batteries are easily charged.

• They are ready for use for a long time and their efficiency is quite high.

• The gel in it preserves its first-day properties against all kinds of environmental and weather conditions and becomes reusable as it produces gas.

• It can be used easily and safely in all weather conditions. They are highly resistant to cold heat, vibration, and abrasion.

• By providing 5 times more efficient than dry batteries and other batteries, it eases the burden of the user.

• There is no need to charge the gel batteries by using the full capacity. As with Ni-Cd batteries, there is no "memory trace" on the plates, so there is no sudden loss of capacity.

How to Maintain Gel Batteries?

One of the biggest mistakes made especially for gel batteries when performing battery maintenance is to force open the battery valves and causing the gases inside to go away and reduce the life of the battery. When very high pressure values are rarely reached in gel batteries, gas escape occurs, which is automatically realized by the valve system on them. Gel batteries are maintenance-free type batteries, so no pure water, etc., should be used in gel batteries. Opening the battery valves forcibly causes the gases in the battery to escape, which reduces the battery life. The gas outputs in the batteries are minimal because the gas outputs occur only when it reaches high pressure, and because the gases in the battery react again under normal conditions. Therefore, much smaller ventilation windows are sufficient to remove the gases that arise in the areas where gel batteries are used, compared to the areas where aqueous batteries are used. It is sufficient to check whether the battery pole connections are healthy.

How to Charge Gel Batteries?

Overcharging causes oxidation on the battery plates and heating the battery. As a result of oxidation, deposits form at the bottom of the battery, the electrolyte value decreases and it irreversibly affects the battery capacity. For this reason, the use of charge controllers (charge regulators) in solar systems is very important.

If you have a charge regulator in your system and you think it may be faulty, your batteries may be drawing extra charge current. Check if there is overheating by monitoring the temperature of your batteries. Check whether it is at the same value as the regulator by measuring voltage under the charging current.

What is the Importance of Power-Xtra Electric Bicycle Battery?

The most important thing that bicycle lovers and electric bicycle enthusiasts wonder about electric bicycles is the battery performance of electric bicycles. The batteries of electric bicycles are charged just like the batteries of mobile phones. Electric bicycle batteries are usually produced as standard. For this reason, users see that the features of the different battery bikes they have examined are similar to each other. The main difference between these bikes is the voltage and AH measurement values. The higher these values in battery-operated bikes, the higher the performance of the bikes. For this reason, the Power-Xtra Brand Electric Bicycle battery, which is specially produced for Electric Bicycles, stands out from other batteries in terms of quality and value.

Where are Power-Xtra Gel Batteries Used?

The gel battery, which is used for a long time thanks to its discharge feature, is used in many electronic devices and lighting systems.

These batteries are;

It is easily used in uninterruptible power supplies (UPS Battery), DC Power, Emergency Lighting, Alarm and Security systems systems, Wind and solar power plants, telecommunication systems, boats, caravans, mobile shopping centers in the maritime field, modern cleaning machines, Electric Bicycles. You can use it by choosing a suitable model depending on the usage area.
